Maggie May


What a gorgeous dog she was, Maggie May. She fell into my life when I was three and was my sister growing up. After watching her pass away near the end of the 2008 I drew this portrait for my mom. Maggie's was the first death close to me and so I felt that part of me where she had been searing red hot. I hoped to show the life in those eyes. A simple and a good one it was.

Hearty Apples



Two seemingly flawless apples were glistening on the kitchen table at my home in Aspen one winter morning. I dug up some old elementary watercolors and captured them in a blur of water and color. Good fun. They are lost somewhere in Marty's art room at the high school.

Impossible Structures


After a lovely ride up Boulder Creek and witnessing a man creating impossible looking rock cairns, I was drawn back to the place. This time armed with pencils and a sketchbook, I attempted to capture it. This painting is of my memory of the rock structures with the intention of remembering this inspiring creation.

I met the builder a year later, and you can see real life pictures of his work balancing rocks at his site:
