Wolf

This all started when I went crazy with the blue paint on an old canvas in the back of the art room of Aspen high school, spring 2010. The blue was going to be water and I was going to create a boat. Something sparked and instead I flew into a journey of the lone wolf's eye. Exploring a little bit further into colors and paints, I created my first large acrylic painting. It is a direct reflection of my lost soul at the time. This piece lies close to the heart and will be hard to part from.

Self Portrait

This began as an assignment to tell a story, and ended with a journey along Sufjan Stevens' album Age of Adz. I admit I was a bit crazy in the head at the time, but here is my state of mind in my first semester of  freshman year at University of Colorado at Boulder. Ah, I suppose I could say this seems lost and confused and a bit fragmented, but all the crazyness seems to be leading me along a wild and fulfilling road. So, here is a portrait of the deep dark wild of my mind.

Molly: a pet portrait

This is Molly, my high school spanish teacher Barbara Connell's beloved dog. She commissioned me to paint Molly after seeing my work at the senior art show. Pet portraits by request!

Toni Louise

My mother, Toni Louise, in charcoal. Working with the figure leaves open a world of possibility of expression. The baby is my older cousin Jaime.

Grizzly in Yellowstone

Captured: a grizzly in Yellowstone - spotted in spring 2010 on a trip with Aspen High School's experiential education program. My first big oil painting. It was fun, it was unplanned, it was utterly free. Chaos of my hand with the penetrating stare of the grizzly in the brush.

Warriors of the Creek

Fall 2010 - a painting from memory of some young ones along Boulder creek. I was taken back into old memories of times that may have been in a past life of simply a dream. Three young kids were playing warriors along the creek with sticks and all of a sudden everything was dark and the game was real. Sketched fast and painted later, this is the raw memory of the warriors.
